Activities to Enjoy When Visiting the USSSA Space Coast Complex
Break away from the tournaments and have some fun when visiting the USSSA Space Coast Complex
The Space Coast has been the spring training site for the Washington Nationals and the regular season facility for the Minor League Brevard County Manatees for the last several years, but in 2018, it has become the new home to the United States Specialty Sports Association (USSSA) and will host youth sporting events all year round. With these events, there are days and times where the teams are waiting for their designated slot to play, so we thought we would highlight a few activities to take advantage of if you are coming to the area for one the tournaments.
Staying in the Viera area:
5270 N. US Hwy 1
Palm Shores, FL 32940
If you are looking for a unique three-in-one action-packed experience, then this is the spot to check out. From escape rooms and bouldering to ninja courses and yoga, there is something for everyone to enjoy, even if it’s grabbing a bite to eat and playing games or watching all the action in the Adventure HQ Base Camp Café.
624 Barnes Blvd.
Rockledge, FL 32955
Another option for indoor fun is Sky Zone. This place takes jumping on a trampoline to a whole other level with their take on classic games like dodgeball, basketball, and jousting. Add in a warrior course where you can challenge your friends to a test of speed, strength, and agility or dare to conquer the bouldering wall, you’ll be sure to have an endless amount of action with friends, family, and teammates. And if you just simply want to fly high, then enjoy the open freestyle jump or the foam zone where you can soar and land safely in the soft foam. For a listing of all their attractions, check out their website.
Not wanting a break from the outdoors, but are still looking for something to do in the Melbourne/Viera area while waiting for your next tourney time slot?
8225 North Wickham Road
Melbourne, FL 32940
Brevard Zoo: (321) 254-9453
Tree Top Trek: (321) 54-9453 x253
The Brevard Zoo has been a staple attraction here on the Space Coast since 1994 and each visit here does not disappoint. With adventures ranging from giraffe feedings to rhino encounters to paddle boat and kayak tours and a train ride taking you to Cairo, to name a few, you’ll have plenty of options to see and experience the wide array of animals the zoo has to offer.
Treetop Trek joined the zoo in 2011 and offers a self-guided zip-line tour through the zoo. With adventures available for as young as four years old to beginner, immediate, and expert challenge courses, this is a great way to get play, but also an opportunity to use critical thinking skills with the different challenges that are offered throughout the courses. This self-guided adventure can be done as an individual, but as a group, you can add in the lesson of team-building and communication skills. Just want to zip line and skip the challenges? They have a fun and easy tour just for you.
Staying closer to the Cocoa Beach area:
250 W. Cocoa Beach Causeway
Cocoa Beach, FL 32931
This isn’t your typical fossil store. The Museum of Dinosaurs & Ancient Cultures gives you the opportunity to explore the prehistoric age to King Tut’s tomb and ancient Egypt. There is also an interactive adventure zone that transforms you into an archaeologist for the day with fossil digs and has you braving the rapids of the Nile River without you even getting wet. This is a great way to learn and have fun at the same time, all while taking a break from the competition.
670 Dave Nisbet Drive
Port Canaveral, FL 32920
(321) 394-3405 or
Looking for a beautiful panoramic view of Port Canaveral and Kennedy Space Center, but also the opportunity to go on an adventure exploring Central Florida’s past to its present day offerings? With simulated boat tours, to watching rocket launches, and even getting to tour an old lighthouse at the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, you will get a wealth of knowledge about Central Florida’s rich history and what makes the Florida’s Space Coast such a unique place.
Want an outdoor option in the Cocoa Beach area?
3811 N. Atlantic Ave.
Cocoa Beach, FL 32931
This is a fun way to enjoy our beaches without getting sandy. Lighthouse Cove is a beach-themed, 36-hole miniature golf course that features boats, waterfalls, caves, and larger-than-life sea creatures. Take a break between courses and enjoy one or more of their 24 flavors of ice cream or hand-spun milkshakes. Check out their menu here. Are you one of the adults needing a nice cold one? Check out their drink menu, and they even have on course drink delivery service. But remember, drink and play responsibly.
As you can see, there are several options for you to choose from if you want to take your team out for an adventure during your down time. Not visiting for a tournament, but are interested in what is on the calendar? Check out the schedule of events here.
We are excited to have USSSA based here on our beautiful and diverse Space Coast and look forward to hosting you here on your visit.
