Summer Activities in Cocoa Beach for the Whole Family

Family adventures on land, on water, and in the air

Planning for summer fun the whole family can enjoy is easy when you come to Cocoa Beach. With something for everyone and every age, Cocoa Beach not only offers water, land, and air activities that are sure to create memories and the perfect photo ops, but the area’s rich surf and space history will give you a bit of education without the kids even noticing. But there’s more than the obvious vacation activities to do here.

So what does Cocoa Beach have to offer that keeps you and the family entertained yet relaxed at the same time? Glad you asked. No matter what your preference or wants in a vacation, here are a few ways for everyone to have fun with the family this summer.

Get out on the water

Cocoa Beach is known for its pristine beaches and waves. Worldwide, famous surfers have called this area home as they learned to master their skill that got them to where they are today. But did you know you could learn how to surf from locals who surf day in and day out? You sure can. Check out Ron Jon Surf School or Cocoa Beach Surf Company.

Not wanting to necessarily surf, but still want to get out on the water? There are several watercraft rental shops where you can skim across the waters on a jet ski, or paddle your way around on a SUP or kayak. Get a bird’s eye view of Cocoa Beach, and if timed correctly, you may even be able to watch one of the rocket launches that take place on the usual just north of where you parasail. You can even be on the water and not get wet. That’s right. Take a scenic boat ride on the Banana River with Island Boat Lines.

There are plenty of opportunities to have fun on the water and fun with the family.

Authentic fun

For some true and authentic fun in Cocoa Beach, head over to one of three putt-putt golf courses: Lighthouse CoveGolf ‘n Gator, or Jungle Village. Or create some fun family competition and do all three and see who comes out on top!

Putt-putt not your thing? Put your heads together by solving puzzles, riddles, and crack codes and see if you can escape in less than an hour. Escape Cocoa Beach takes you on a real life adventure your and your family won’t soon forget.  Want an even bigger challenge? Test your skills at Cocoa Beach Aerial Adventures for a rope and zip line course. But don’t worry; there are adventures for all skill levels so no one age five and over will miss out on the fun.

Learn a little or a lot

Cocoa Beach is chock-full of history. From space to surf and famous lanes, but for more family fun where education and history meet entertainment, head over to The Dinosaur Store & Museum. Already been there? The Florida Surf Museumwill tell you of all about Cocoa Beach’s surfing history, past and present.

Do big things intrigue you? Then head over to the Exploration Tower for 7-stories of interactive exhibits and the perfect view of the cruise ships and be even closer for a rocket launch. And it wouldn’t be a vacation to the Space Coast without heading over to the mecca of space history, Kennedy Space Center. Get an up-close view of rockets and shuttles that have orbited the world and meet the astronauts who have flown them.

And if you want a bit more of a low-key learning experience that packs quite the punch of fun, then the Brevard Zoo is the perfect spot for a fascinating day outdoors.

Take a break from the beach

So you’ve spent days at the beach and now you’re ready for something new. The Space Coast has several downtown areas that bring shopping, eating, and entertainment into one space. Cocoa Village provides a day of fun for the whole family with the Riverfront Park and water splash pad, Painting with a Twist where you get to be the next Picasso, and the historic Cocoa Village Playhouse. And there are plenty of family-friendly restaurants so you won’t have to pack any snacks.

After spending time in Cocoa Village, and you still have some shop left in you, then you’ll want to cruise south and stop at The Avenue in Viera for more boutiques and some classic favorites. The Avenue also has several restaurants to choose from and a movie theater to catch one of the latest blockbusters.
