Where to Camp on Florida’s Space Coast
Spend the night under the stars
It is officially the fall season. Besides all the festive décor lining storefronts and a subtle pumpkin and apple spice aroma filling your nostrils, the air is starting to make its way to cooler temperatures, which means being outdoors is all the more appealing.
Some of you may choose to take more bike rides, long walks, or peruse outdoor farmer and craft markets. However, there are other ways to enjoy this season that may be a new idea for some of you. And as the weather begins to cool down, especially in these weeks and months to come, now is the perfect time to consider camping. Florida’s Space Coast is home to a picturesque, natural landscape, making it easy to pitch a tent or pull in an RV. Whether a camping enthusiast or new to the whole experience or it’s just been a while and are looking for a fun getaway, here are a few spots to consider:
Jetty Park – Port Canaveral
Located just steps away from the beach, Jetty Park is a great spot for those who want to go to bed and wake up to the sounds of waves crashing and a salty air breeze. This unique one-of-a-kind experience is your beach oasis where cruise ships, submarines, and rocket launch viewings are a common occurrence. Jetty Park proudly boasts rustic, primitive camping, RV glamping, and cabins, so no matter your camping preference, Jetty Park has you covered.
Sebastian Inlet – Melbourne & the Beaches
When you want to have both a camping and recreational experience with endless opportunities to play outdoors, setting up camp at Sebastian Inlet is just the place for you. There’s both primitive and RV camping here, making this a popular spot. This state park gives you access to both the Atlantic Ocean and Indian River Lagoon and is a prime area for fishing, surfing, boating, and so much more. It’s recommended you make your reservation sooner than later so you have top choice for where you’ll spend your time.
Manatee Hammock - Titusville
For those of you looking for a quiet and peaceful camping experience, Manatee Hammock offers guests a secluded haven where shoreline fishing and perfect views of the rocket launches are an added perk. This is a great spot where access to urban amenities is on site, but you get the feel of being “one with nature.” And with a leash-free area, bring along your furry companion to make this a trip for every member of your family.
Canaveral National Seashore - Titusville
If you’re looking to “rough-it” for a few days, then backcountry camping at Canaveral National Seashore is the spot for you. This place is perfect for those planning to bring your boat or kayak for both fishing and recreation. With only 14 sites to pitch your tent, it’s best to make a reservation first and then start gathering your gear to make the most of this island camping experience.
