When’s the Best Time to Plan a Port Canaveral Cruise?

Worry-free cruise planning

One of the quickest ways to escape your everyday routine and vacation is by hopping on a cruise. By just stepping foot on one of the many cruise ships available, you are instantly whisked away to another world. From an overflowing smorgasbord of food and drinks, to continuous fun and entertainment, it’s no wonder why so many people consider taking a cruise for one of their next getaways. But did you know that there are good and then are better times as to when to book your cruise?

Pros & Cons of Booking Early

Although anytime is a great time to book a cruise, for starters, planning ahead is most always your best bet. The pros in planning and booking ahead include:

  • First choice on top cabins and the location on the ship.
  • Choose a cabin with private balconies.
  • More incentives when you book six to 18 months before setting sail, like prepaid gratuities, free meals, and not-to-mention the money you will save.

There are some cons, which mainly center around those “not planned for” events that sometimes pop up, but the good news is that purchasing travel insurance for your cruise will help ensure that once you choose and book your cruise, you are guaranteed that you’ll have a nice vacation ready and waiting for you.

And lastly, for those of you who are more spontaneous and not so much the planning type. Not to worry. If you aren’t picky about cabin location, but are still looking for a deal, you can find great last-minute cruise fares for inexpensive; you just won’t get many of the incentives if you booked further out.

Why cruise out of Port Canaveral?

That’s a great question. Besides being known as “The Best North American Homeport” by Cruise Critic®, here are the top three reasons why you should plan to cruise out of Port Canaveral.

  1. Easy access - Port Canaveral is a 45-minute straight-shot drive east from Orlando International Airport and only a 10-15-minute drive from I-95. The port is also not located in a heavily populated downtown area where navigating one-way streets, traffic, and avoiding pedestrians makes for an easy and laid-back driving experience, which makes getting to the ship easier.

  2. Top cruise lines - Port Canaveral is home to four major cruise lines: Royal Caribbean, Carnival, Norwegian, and Disney. And more recently, these cruise lines have upgraded and brought in some of the most the port has seen. With trips that will take you to the Bahamas, East and West Caribbean, the Panama Canal, Cuba, and even across the Atlantic. Get ready to explore multiple international cities and create memories that will last a lifetime.

  3. Florida’s fun port - Port Canaveral is located in an area that is home to a plethora of things to do for anyone of any age, so it’s a great place to arrive early and play on land before sailing out.

  • Beach access

For all you beach lovers, no matter much beach time you get with your port of call locations, there always room for more! Jetty Park, a 35-acre area, is one of the top recreation spots when visiting Port Canaveral and home to 4.5 acres of the most beautiful and pristine beaches on Florida’s Space Coast. There are year-round lifeguards on duty, pavilions, a fishing pier, beach chair and other accessories to rent, so all you have to do is literally show up ready to have a day relaxing in the Florida sun.

  • Dining & Entertainment

Located on the grounds of Port Canaveral is The Cove . From restaurants and live music to watching dolphins and other local wildlife, The Cove offers its guests a destination spot that will keep you entertained and your stomach full. Located at The Cove is the Exploration Tower. One of the reasons why Port Canaveral is one of the best places to cruise out of is the rich history the area is tied to and the Exploration Tower will help you come face to face with that history in each of the seven floors of stacked with fun and education.

  • Space & Rocket Launches

And if that isn’t enough of a reason, the fact that Port Canaveral faces the historical launching pads that have seen 60+ years of shuttle and rocket launches. You may even get to experience an actual rocket launch up close. Extend your space history experience by taking a day to explore Kennedy Space Center.
