Things to Do During a Rainy Day in Cocoa Beach

Don’t let the rain stop you from having fun!

Rain, rain go away! Central Florida, including Florida’s Space Coast, is no stranger to rain, but the good news is that it rarely rains here all day in the summer! However, by early afternoon you should expect a thunderstorm or at least a rain shower. Sometimes they can last for hours, and sometimes they can last for 30 minutes.

Cocoa Beach and the surrounding area are prepared for those rainy days with a plethora of indoor activities for you to do. The best advice we can give is to plan all your outdoor activities in the morning when it tends to be cooler and drier, and when that afternoon storms rolls in, plan to take your adventures indoors.

Here’s a look at some of the top indoor activities to partake in when visiting Cocoa Beach:

Exploration Tower

670 Dave Nisbet Drive, Cape Canaveral | (321) 394-3408

Located just minutes from Cocoa Beach, you can brave the storm at the Exploration Tower inside The Cove at Port Canaveral. Here you will find seven stories of interactive exhibits and an observation deck overlooking the port. Obviously, if there is thunder and lightning, the decks will be closed, but inside you will find educational activities that will teach you about the Space Coast, the port and Kennedy Space Center. Plus, the café is a great spot to catch a bite to eat and relax.

Parker Brothers Concepts

730 Mullet Road, Port Canaveral | (321) 868-2174

Take a tour of Parker Brothers Concepts and discover the most-outrageous custom vehicles on the planet. Just minutes from Cocoa Beach, this is the perfect place to spend a rainy day. Movie fans can’t miss the Hollywood Auto Museum, which includes favorites like the Batmobile, the Ecto-1 from “Ghostbusters” and Optimus Prime from “Transformers.” Self-guided tours are available as well as guided VIP tours. Children six and under are free with paying adult.

Dinosaur Store & Museum of Dinosaurs and Ancient Cultures

250 West Cocoa Beach Causeway, Cocoa Beach | (321) 783-7300

It’s easy to spend multiple hours inside the Museum of Dinosaurs and Ancient Cultures at The Dinosaur Store. Both entities are in the same building and lend itself to a family-friendly activity that everyone will love. Here you will explore prehistoric life, as well as King Tut’s tomb and ancient Egypt. There’s also an interactive adventure zone that transforms you into an archaeologist for a day, complete with fossil digs. And you’ll get to brave the rapids of the Nile River without even getting wet.

Painting with a Twist Cocoa Village

109 King Street, Cocoa | (321) 339-8851

Take a drive 10 minutes west and you’ll find yourself in historic Cocoa Village. This quaint downtown district is home to local eateries, shopping and Painting with a Twist.
