Holiday Fitness: Keep Your Resolutions to Stay Fit
Close out the year strong and start the new year fit
The holiday season is in full-effect, from festive displays to the amazing yummy treats that bombard you everywhere you go. There is nothing quite like this time of the year. But it’s also the season where sometimes overindulging leaves you feeling discouraged by the time the new year comes around.
Make the transition from holiday cheer to excitement for the New Year a flawless one. With any resolution, the most important thing to remember is that if you fail to plan, you plan to fail. Besides adding your commitment to keeping fit, making it fun is another part of helping to keep your resolutions.
Most days on Florida’s Space Coast are a good day to get outside and play, so here’s a few ways to get you moving, burn off those extra calories and have a blast while doing it.
Thousand Islands is a 338-acre site in the Banana River Lagoon and a great way you can experience these series of islands is by kayak. Get your heart rate up as you paddle your way through the winding channels and plan to encounter manatees and other wildlife along the way.
Work out your entire body as you enjoy either an eco-tour in the Banana River Lagoon. With the eco tours, expect to see all different kinds of wildlife along with beautiful sunsets. But if after dark paddling experiences is more your style, the bioluminescence tour during the summer months will give you a magical experience you’ll forget your “working out.”
Taking a leisurely stroll along Melbourne Beach not only gets you your steps in for the day, but you also get to take advantage of the natural exfoliation process, not to mention other health benefits. So grab a few people and go outside, walk the beach, soak up some vitamin D and step your way into being fit and happy!
Did you know that you could potentially burn up to 250 calories (and sometimes more) in a one-hour yoga session? Talk about maximizing an hour of your day! You can get centered and re-align your focus all while pushing your body to stretch and lean out after a long day of holiday fun. If you want a smaller setting, check out The Yoga Garden or if you don’t mind being outside and with a larger group, check out Yoga at the Avenue.
For those looking for great walking, biking, or even inline skating trails, check out the Titusville Multi-Use Trail. Although one of the shorter trails on the Space Coast, it is an enjoyable paved path that takes you on a winding journey through the woods.
Bike or walk your way around the Space Coast’s newest addition to outdoor experiences. Enjoy a wildlife conservatory or Kennedy Space Center as you peddle to your health goals for the year.
The Blue Heron Trail is a great way to couple your love of photography with getting exercise. Take a leisurely walk through the wetlands trail and capture beautiful shots all while maintaining your New Year’s resolutions. Make it a family affair and take action shots of the kids enjoying the outdoors with you.
So as you think about how you want to plan out your new year, we think our Space Coast has plenty to offer to help you keep your “stay fit” resolutions. For more ideas on how to get that heart rate up and your body moving, check out more options here.
