Cycling through Cocoa Village on Florida's Space Coast

Cycling Through Cocoa

I used to hate bike riding, but I found a love for it when we moved over to Cocoa Beach on Florida’s Space Coast. To me, biking is about the scenery, and let me tell you, the Indian River is quite the sight to enjoy on a bike ride.

I like to take my own small rides during the week, but I really look forward to my weekly Saturday morning rides with my cycle group. We venture out on the roughly 28-mile round trip up and down “River Road,” or as our visitors know it, Indian River Drive. Twenty-eight miles seems like a lot, but when you are cruising your way past old riverfront homes and taking in the Indian River, the time sure flies by. Our early morning rides are the best as we get to the see the sun peek through the trees, and we can sometimes even see manatees or dolphins in the river.

On Saturday mornings, we typically start in Cocoa Village. We like to meet at a local store, The Village Cycle Shoppe. A local favorite, the shoppe offers exceptional service in case you need to get something checked out before your ride. And if you are visiting Florida’s Space Coast, then this is definitely a place to check out as they now offer bike rental packages.

After everyone is settled, we make the ride north on River Road until we reach the northernmost point where we reverse our course and head south. Heading back through Cocoa Village normally means it’s time for that reward I talked about earlier - brunch! Ossorio Bakery & Cafe is our usual stop. With outdoor & indoor dining, it’s a popular stop for fuel to get our body through the next leg of the ride. I typically enjoy their Feta & Spinach omelette with fresh fruit, which has just the right amount of protein. Once everyone has had a moment to settle, we get back on our bikes and head south toward Rockledge. Once we hit the southernmost point of River Road, we turn around and head back.

As you can tell, we don’t bike on Saturday mornings to win any races, but it’s a way to get outside, enjoy the fresh air, and get in a little cardio. And, of course, the fellowship is always great. So, if you are looking for a scenic and fun way to get around Florida’s Space Coast, be sure to check out River Road - I hope to see you out there one day! - Ella, Florida’s Space Coast Biking Enthusiast
