The diversity of Florida’s Space Coast isn’t limited to space or water-related interests, although there is plenty of that to go around. The Space Coast has an extensive history, but it also has a flair for the arts and creativity. The Eau Gallie Arts District (EGAD) has revitalized the arts district into a beautiful community that’s quaintly nestled within the live oak-lined streets.
Take a Wall Mural Tour
EGAD Main Street is an accredited and award-winning Florida Main Street and an authentic original neighborhood since 1860. In November 2017, EGAD added 19 new murals to their community essentially making it an outdoor museum. Although there are indoor museums, having outdoor murals from artists who are known around the world for their work is worth taking a stroll through and admiring.
This effort was part of the Anti-Gravity Project and this project aimed to “elevate outdoor spaces, generate positive community energy, and showcase the EGAD as the growing epicenter of innovation on the Space Coast.” And you can be the judge as you take in each creation.
EGAD Events
EGAD also hosts many events throughout the year, but one of the more popular are what they call “First Fridays.” First Fridays are an opportunity to take a stroll down the historic Highland Avenue, stop by different shops, galleries, and taverns that are hosting individual events and exhibits. And the great thing about these “First Fridays” is that they are free and take place rain or shine, so no matter what “First Friday” you decide to come, you won’t have to worry about a canceled event.
Besides the “First Friday” events, there are other activities that pop up each month, but if you are one that would like to just get away for the weekend and have a cultural experience, then planning out your time so that you can fully take in all that EGAD has to offer is a must. Here are a few of the hot spots to keep your eyes and ears in wonder and your stomachs full as you celebrate the arts.
Entertainment
The Not Quite Right Improv will have you on the edge of your seat laughing and having a good time. Live music is always rocking at Squidlips, Intracoastal Brewing Company, Pineapples, The Cottage Irish Pup, and Island Root Kava Bar! Every first Friday you'll find concerts in the Bandshell along with an all-out Flea-GAD Market. It's a great place to enjoy the afternoon or evening on Florida's Space Coast.
Galleries & Photography
The art scene is vast in EGAD. With over a dozen active galleries, there’s plenty of art to be seen and for you to take home with you. Here’s just a few of the galleries available: Derek Gores Gallery, Erika Masterson Fine Art and Fifth Avenue Art Gallery.
Restaurants
From craft coffee and craft beer to delightful eats which include some of the Space Coast’s best, the food compliments the arts district quite well. Pick up a cup of joe at Anaya Coffee, a meal with a view at Squid Lips or a nightcap at Intracoastal Brewing Company, where you can get some of the most unique craft beers in the area.
