10 Things to Do in Melbourne in 36 hours
Short on time? Use up all your vacation hours over the holidays, but you still want to get out of town? Don’t you worry! One of the great features of the Space Coast is that you can enjoy a quick trip any time of the year. And if you haven’t been to Melbourne, Florida, then you are missing out on some of the most pristine beaches here on the Space Coast, not to mention great restaurants, shopping, larger-than-life murals, and other outdoor fun.
So, if you have the itch to get away sooner than later, here are some things you can do and you only need a day and a half (so you can leave work on a Friday and go home on a Sunday...hint…hint).
1) The Beach:
With 33 miles of coastline for you to enjoy, the beaches of Melbourne can be experienced both day and night. And it’s easy to benefit from the laid-back atmosphere whether for a leisurely stroll, a little rest and relaxation, or a quick surf session with several beach parks to choose from.
2) Adventure HQ:
If you are looking for a unique action-packed experience, then Adventure HQ is the spot to check out. From escape rooms and bouldering to ninja courses and yoga, there is something for everyone to enjoy, even if it’s grabbing a bite to eat and watching all the action in their Chill Out Lounge.
3) Walk the Murals:
For those of you that have a flair for the arts, you’ll want to take a walk through the Eau Gallie Arts District (EGAD) and view the murals painted on buildings that make up, what is known as, the outdoor museum. With creations from artists who are known around the world for their work, you’ll get to experience one-of-a-kind designs as you walk the historical streets of Olde Eau Gallie.
4) Grab a Drink:
Squidlips, a Melbourne classic, with a waterside bar, covered party deck, upstairs tiki bar, sun deck, and more, is your place to go if you are looking for a happy hour with a waterfront view. Enjoy great local music while you sip on your drink of choice and recap your day. And if you want to start things off earlier, check out their 50+ item Bloody Mary bar during their brunch.
5) Explore Nature:
Are you a nature enthusiast that’s looking for a way to unwind, but also experience the natural habitat and landscape of the Space Coast? Paddling Paradise offers kayak and paddleboard rentals so you can take your adventure to the water and explore. They also offer guided eco-tours, as well as sunset paddleboard sessions, where you can expect to see all kinds of wildlife, from manatees to dolphin to a wide variety bird species.
Work up an appetite after a morning outing, but want something quick so you can get back out and enjoy more of the area? Da Kine Diego’s Insane Burrito is where you want to go. This surf shack serves a HUGE burrito with HUGE flavor that locals and visitors will tell you it lives up to it’s “Insane Burrito” name. They also offer tacos and salads if you want to go a bit lighter.
Looking for some unique buys? Then you’ll want to peruse the shops in historical downtown Melbourne, a vibrant shopping and entertainment destination. Take a walk down Main Street and treat yourself to one-of-a-kind items and gifts to take home with you.
Want a fun and unforgettable experience? Enjoy brunch at Backwater. Their menu is full of some classic southern dishes and if you want a real treat, then ask to be seated at a griddle table where you get to be your own pancake artist.
9) Take a Lap:
Want to take your family for an outing of fun and excitement? Stop by Andretti Thrill Park, where you can take a few laps on one (or all) of their five go-kart tracks. They also feature 18-hole miniature golf courses, laser tag, batting cages, and a rock-climbing wall, so you will have plenty of options to choose from for your day of adventure.
10) Smash Golf:
Scratching your head as you try to figure out what Smash Golf is? With its roots starting out here on the Space Coast, Smash Golf takes your skill as a golfer and couples it with your tennis serve. You’ll have fun discovering this new way of playing both sports combined into one game.
