Memorial Day is a time of reverence on the Space Coast. We celebrate our military’s presence here every day from the Kennedy Space Center, the historic Canaveral Lighthouse, to the Patrick Space Force Base and beyond. When you visit the Space Coast this Memorial Day Weekend, you’ll have a chance to honor the fallen and celebrate the freedoms their sacrifice has granted us. Here are some of our favorite ways to honor and celebrate Memorial Day on the Space Coast.
Military Museums and Memorials on the Space Coast
Liberty Bell Memorial Museum - Melbourne
Memorial Day Program
May 31, 2021, 11 am to 12 noon, Free Admission
Hear Brevard County Sheriff, Wayne Ivey, honor the fallen. Listen to the Melbourne Municipal Band members patriotic music and explore this hidden gem with a full-size replica of the Liberty Bell, historical memorabilia and artworks dating back to pre-revolutionary times. Also see military uniforms, technology, household items, posters, and curiosities from all eras of America’s history on display.
Free Parking on Site, Boy Scouts will sell food and beverages.
Veterans Memorial Park - Merritt Island
With an amazing array of military artifacts ranging from the Revolutionary War to current conflicts in the Middle East, The Veterans Memorial Center strives to educate the public on our military’s efforts both past and present in our FREE museum, library, plaza, and park.
Valant Air Command - Titusville
Valiant Air Command Warbird Museum honors the past, educates the future, and preserves the heritage of military aviation history. You’ll see more than 50 historic aircraft on display and learn from incredible docents about the history and heritage of these planes.
Canaveral Lighthouse Tours - Cape Canaveral
Canaveral Tours provides a 4-hour tour of the Canaveral Lighthouse and Canaveral Air Force Station. History of the Cape from early settlers to current space programs is provided on your tour. The tour takes you first to the lighthouse, where you are provided a guided tour by a Lighthouse Foundation guide. Then, continues on a ride through the Air Force Station to see launch complexes from the beginning of spaceflight programs to current commercial ventures. Stops at the historic launch pad facilities of the Mercury and Apollo missions allow you to walk where the astronauts launched into space.

Take to the Trails
There’s plenty of space to get out and about on the Space Coast. With biking, walking, and water trails around every corner, socially distancing this Memorial Day will be a breeze
Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge
The Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge protects and conserves one of the most amazing ecosystems on the Space Coast. Explore the many walking and biking trails on this vast expanse of conservation land to see native and migratory wildlife. Alligators, Roseate Spoonbills, Gopher Tortoises, Dolphins, and Manatees can all be observed on the many trails. Black Point Wildlife Drive is another fun way to view wildlife at the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge - you don’t even have to get out of your air-conditioned car!
Love to cycle? Titusville is the place for your Memorial Day getaway. In Titusville, three major biking trails converge, the St. Johns River-to-Sea Loop, the Florida Coast-to-Coast Trail, and the East Coast Greenway. There are plenty of places to rent a bicycle around these trails so you can pedal a portion this weekend!

The Indian River Lagoon affords many opportunities for you and your family to get some much-needed relaxation on your Memorial Day weekend. Whether you decide to rent a boat, go out on a kayak tour or try some fishing, you’ll soon see why the Space Coast Loves our Lagoon so much.
