Top Ten Free Things To Do

A Space Coast Vacation on a tight budget

No matter the time of year, you’ll find a wealth of fun activities on Florida’s Space Coast that are easy on the budget – from exploring parks and wildlife to watching surf contests and speed boat races from the beach, or simply waving to cruise passengers as they leave for open waters. The choice is yours!

Check out the top 10 suggestions for free things to do here on the Space Coast, and get the most out of your next vacation.

1. Watch a Launch

Rocket launches are jaw-dropping events that demonstrate the power and glory of America’s space program. The best viewing spots are Canaveral National Seashore, Space View Park in Titusville, Jetty Park at Port Canaveral and anywhere on the south beaches. For launch updates, click here.

3. Explore Art

Take a stroll in throughout the five downtown districts where you can discover creativity around every corner. From wall murals and bench murals to art museums and Space Coast culture, there's a variety of opportunities to view one-of-a-kind work. Eau Gallie Arts District has revitalized the area into a beautiful community with over 25 wall murals to see for free. That area is considered the premiere art district on Florida's Space Coast.

4. Surf's Up!

Perhaps surfing isn't your thing, but here on Florida's Space Coast, surfing is kind of a big deal! Check out the Florida Surf Museum next to Ron Jon Surf Shop in Cocoa Beach to view the latest exhibit and learn why we are known as the East Coast Surf Capital. And while you're in Cocoa Beach, head to Downtown Cocoa Beach to snag a picture with Cocoa Beach's hometown hero, Kelly Slater. Located at the north entrance of Downtown Cocoa Beach, this life size sculpture honors 11-time world title champion.

5. Get in Touch with the “Real” Florida

Visit area refuges and protected lands. The Enchanted Forest Sanctuary in Titusville, Turkey Creek Sanctuary in Palm Bay and Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge are popular with families because of their free admissions, excellent interpretive centers, and guided nature tours. Barrier Island Sanctuary in Melbourne Beach allows your group to experience the wonders of the Space Coast's barrier island ecosystem.

6. Pay Homage to Astronauts

Space View Park in Titusville honors the men and women who participated in the first space missions. Walk among Mercury, Gemini and Apollo monuments and enjoy gorgeous panoramic views of the Indian River Lagoon and NASA's Vehicle Assembly Building in the distance.

7. Take a Picnic

Visit one or more of the Space Coast’s 108 beachfront, riverfront and inland area parks. Many feature amenities such as playground equipment, tennis courts, basketball courts, running/ walking trails and nature trails. There’s something for everyone. Riverfront Park in Cocoa Village offers an open space where you can find kids and adults alike running through the splash fountains, throwing Frisbees, and swinging and sliding at the playground. This is a place where you can easily bring a picnic basket and enjoy the outdoors, soak up the sun, and not worry about tracking sand all in the car.
