Encaustics: Painting with Wax
The Studios of Cocoa Beach is offering a two day workshop, an INTRODUCTION TO ENCAUSTICS , the weekend of July 29 and 30, 2017 from 10 am to 4 pm.
Encaustics is an ancient art form of painting with pigmented wax using a beeswax/damar crystal medium.. This 2 day class offers a comprehensive approach for working both traditionally and experimentally with encaustic. Artists working in most any medium (drawing, painting, mixed media, fiber, clay, sculpture, etc) will benefit from this exploratory, hands-on workshop.
The class will be taught by Glenda Reeves. Topics will include: Paint application, manipulation and fusing methods, layering, scraffito, scraping, texturing, stencils, pouring, dipping, collage, incorporating mixed media.. Encaustic formulas, color mixing, supports and grounds, studio safety and the use of various tools will be covered. Beginners are welcomed.
The instructor will provide all encaustic paint and mediums. Students will need to bring birch panels and a heat gun (available at Home Depot or Loews). Complete information is available at www.studiosofcocoabeach.org. The fee for the two days is $150. Call Glenda at 867-660-7460 to register
The Studios of Cocoa Beach , 165 Minuteman Causeway , Cocoa Beach is a non-profit gallery and the creative hub of downtown Cocoa Beach with a full schedule of workshops in a variety of techniques from beginner to advanced, adults and children. The Studio is open Tuesday 11am-3pm, Wednesday through Saturday 11am-8pm and Sunday noon-5pm.
