The month of April is winding down, but you wouldn't be able to tell on the Space Coast! The weekend is filled with events for practically every interest from the Space Coast Spring Fair and Melbourne Arts Festival to 25 Years of Hubble and The Great Optimist Fishout.
On Friday, the bright lights of Space Coast Spring Fair's carnival midway will illuminate the night near Space Coast Stadium. Claiming to be Brevard County's biggest fair, this lollapalooza of bumper cars and candied apples will feature more than 100 carnival rides and performances by the Torres Family Circus, the Motorcycle Globe of Death and the AG-Magic Show. Gate admission is as low as $10 per person and includes all rides and entertainment.
We suggest you get outdoors on Saturday.Grab junior and head out to Port Canaveral for the The Great Optimist Fishout. Hundreds of kids and their families are expected to drop a line in the water to compete for $600 in prize money awarded in four age categories: 5-7, 8-10, 11-13, and 14-16. One lucky angler could win the top prize: a $10,000 specially tagged fish insured by the Cocoa Beach Optimist Club (CBOC).
The Melbourne Arts Festival (MAF) will take over downtown historic Melbourne on Saturday and Sunday. Nationally recognized, MAF is a plein-air juried art show that attracts hundreds of artists and thousands of art lovers to our coast. Art is available for purchase all weekend long. Have a Picasso or Kahlo? Participating artist will lead art workshops for children ages 6-13. There will also be a "Kidsworld" where kids can explore hands-on demonstrations, arts & crafts, experiments, and performances. Admission to the festival is free.
This weekend will be extra busy at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex as they celebrate 25 Years of Hubble. Three days of events and interactive activities are planned including a high-tech projection mapping show, Q&As with NASA scientists, astronomers, astrophysicists and astronauts.
For the music lovers, the Space Coast Jazz Society and Heidi's Jazz Club will host the three finalists from the American Jazz Piano Competition on Sunday, April 26. This finger-snapping concert will feature a mind-bending array of jazz standards. Tickets are only $20. Heidi's Jazz Club is located at 7. N. Orlando Avenue in Cocoa Beach.
Don't have to rush back to work on Monday? Then you should stay for the SpaceX Falcon 9 launch at 6:14pm. The TurkmenAlem52E/MonacoSat mission will launch Turkmenistan's first national satellite into space and support communications over Central Asia.
