Major news came out of the 2015 World Surf League Fiji Pro, when CJ Hobgood announced after his Round One heat that he would be retiring at the end of the 2015 season. CJ bowed out of the contest after Round 2, but not before he put up a major fight in the year's first GoPro Challenge, regularly getting steep and deep on every big left that came his way during freesurfs around the contest. With Aussie hellman Anthony Walsh helping CJ with his final edits, and his friends in the peanut gallery urging him to keep the "power on" in critical situations, CJ emerged with the $10,000 GoPro Challenge win — perfect to give his present for wife Cortney's 30th birthday. "Thank you so much @Gopro after 2 years of trying to bag a #goprochallenge it came together this week," CJ said on Instagram. "@anthony_walsh_ thanks for your help and patience I'm a slow learner #practicemakesprogress @wsl thank you for putting all these events on. 10k winner winner chicken dinner for #fijipro@cortneyhobgood birthday present just got an upgrade."
