Spring has sprung and so has the preparation for summer events that take place here on Florida’s Space Coast. And with this area being the home to the USSSA Space Coast Complex, many tournaments are scheduled that capitalize on the year-round perfect weather for outdoor sports.
If you are looking to come into town for your kid’s USSSA tournament, read on further to get the inside scoop. One thing that is necessary to know is where the best and closest places to get food are. Whether calling ahead for a to-go order or wanting a proper sit-down meal, Viera has you covered while you are in town. Here are a few places to check out that are close to the stadium (within a few miles), family and team friendly, based on popular food categories.
The go-to comfort food of choice and an easy option that most everyone can agree on. Try one of these local favorites:
Pizza Gallery & Grill – Looking for a place where your food is an original masterpiece? Then this is where you want to go. With a menu that features a wide array of delicious treats, choosing a pizza is like picking your favorite artist. And just like any piece of art, you’ll want to gaze intently before digging in and devouring the goodness in front of you. Pizza Gallery & Grill also offers gluten-free options.
Blaze Pizza – If you are in a hurry and want to get your pizza at lightning speed, then you’ll want to head over to Blaze Pizza. Besides the speed of their service, Blaze offers a great menu that features freshly made dough daily, along with clean ingredients and eco-friendly packaging. Blaze Pizza offers gluten-free options as well.
Uno’s Pizzeria – Come to where the Windy City meets the sunshine capital of the world and get a taste of Chicago style deep-dish pizza. With an expansive menu, which offers both gluten-free pizza and beer, this is a great place to go to for a sit-down meal. If you are tired from the day of tournaments, Uno’s offers delivery service to area hotels.
Viera Pizza – If you want a pick up and go pizza, this is your place. Those who have dared to stop at this “gas station” pizza shop, end up being delightfully surprised with the pizza and the rest of the menu. If you have a large crew with you, try one of the monstrous 24” pizzas served. Viera Pizza offers gluten-free options.
If you want an endless supply of chips and salsa with a side or two of guacamole, or if the day of tournaments had left you ready to end the day with a cold margarita, then head over to one of the following Mexican restaurants to get your fiesta on.
El Leoncito - El Leoncito is the place for your Mexi-Cuban dishes, whether for lunch or dinner. This colorful bar and restaurant will have not only your taste buds doing the salsa, your feet may be doing the same with their monthly mariachi band providing live music or from the effects of their margaritas, voted best by Florida Today.
Tequila Azul – If you’re looking to take a break from the kids and sneak away for an adult beverage and good food, then you’ll want to visit Tequila Azul. A premier Mexican restaurant and tequila bar, enjoy traditional Mexican food in an environment where live Latin music tickles your ears while your taste buds are more than just satisfied.
Chipotle – The place to go for a good burrito bowl, Chipotle offers you a simple menu that covers the basics that make up Mexican food. In a modern environment that personalizes your order, you’ll enjoy every bite, especially since it serves up food made with no GMOs. Order with their app and get it to go with ease.
Tijuana Flats – If you want a place to get good Tex-Mex but like things on the spicy side, Tijuana Flats does not disappoint. Home to a wide range of hot sauces to top your choice of Mexican food, you’ll be smacking your lips after stopping in or taking to go.
Moe’s Southwest Grill – “Welcome to Moe’s” is what you’ll be greeted with whether you are doing take out or dining in, the staff is ready to take your order. From massive burritos to quesadillas, nachos, and the popular taco, and for a quick meal, Moe’s is the spot for you.
You’ll want to start off with a good, balanced breakfast before heading to the stadium for a day of games. And there are plenty of places that will fit the bill. And for those of you who like breakfast for dinner, there are options for you as well.
Cracker Barrel – You can’t go wrong with a home-cooked meal and this famous country-style restaurant, where you can eat breakfast anytime of the day, is just a few miles from the stadium. For comfort food that gets you fueled for the game, Cracker Barrel is your home away from home.
Perkins – For another “eat breakfast anytime of the day” spot, Perkins delivers all your favorites and with an updated kids menu, you’ll easily find something for everyone and every palette to enjoy. And this is the place if you’re looking for a good ‘ol stack of buttermilk pancakes.
First Watch – If you’re looking for a place that serves food that is made to order and locally sourced, when possible, head over to First Watch. With a menu that features traditional breakfast and some egg-sclusive options, the finest and freshest ingredients go into making your breakfast top notch.
Starbucks – For breakfast on the go and to order ahead, there are a couple of Starbucks on the way to the stadium depending on where you are staying.
Sometimes you just want some good All-American food and there is a one-stop shop where you have the “pick of the litter.” The Avenues in Viera is home to the following restaurants that will give you an American food fix whether on the go or for a sit-down meal.
Panera Bread – Soup, sandwiches, and salads are what Panera Bread is known for and the Viera location believes that good, clean food brings out the best in everyone. And that’s exactly what you and the team need to ensure a victory. And even if victory isn’t that sweet, the bakery will make up for it.
Chili’s – A place to get a little bit of everything from the South that people enjoy, Chili’s offers good food in an environment that values connection with those you are eating with. This is a great place to bring the team after a day of games.
Five Guys – For a good burger made with fresh (not frozen) ground beef and fresh-cut fries, Five Guys delivers. The menu is simple, but the satisfaction of a juicy burger is not. Five Guys does offer other items on the menu, like hot dogs, BLTs, and milkshakes, so no matter what you choose to eat, you’ll definitely get your All-American meal here.
If you like packing food because you’re not sure how long you’ll be at the stadium or like to snack throughout the day, stopping at a grocery store when you first get into town is the way to go.
Publix – This is your closest grocery store to the stadium. Publix offers a hot bar along with made-to-order deli subs that are a favorite among locals.
Earth Fare – If you want something like a Whole Foods, then Earth Fare is where you want to go. There is also a coffee and juice bar inside if you need a caffeine boost or something clean to drink.
Walmart & Target – Sometimes you just need to go to a place where you know what to get, where to get it, and check out quick in order to get to where you are going. Both Walmart and Target are located across the street from each other and are located just off the Wickham Road exit ramp off I-95.
You can’t come to the Space Coast and not enjoy some of the beauty that makes up this area. When the tournaments are finished, kick back and relax by the water at one of the area’s waterfront dining spots.
River Rocks – For a more, fine dining option and a view of the Indian River Lagoon, River Rocks delivers with views from every table. The upscale chef-inspired menu will have your mouth watering as soon as you look at it. Fresh, local ingredients with a focus on seafood is what you’ll get and an eclectic mix of wines that will pair well with any of the menu choices. And for those of you who like to eat early, there is an early dining menu for a flat $15. River Rocks also offers a more casual dining experience at the same spot. Dock at River Rocks is a 5,000 square-foot deck that overlooks the river. Although a more casual environment, the menu doesn’t disappoint.
Grills Riverside - A waterfront spot with an outdoor tiki bar featuring live music, Grills Riverside is a local favorite with their picturesque views of the Indian River Lagoon. Serving fresh seafood, juicy burgers and other daily specials, as well as a hearty breakfast, any time is a great time to dine here, whether you come by car or by boat.
What’s nice about Viera is that everything is in close proximity to the stadium so you don’t have to travel too far in order to find good food.
