Florida’s Space Coast is home to five downtown areas: Downtown Titusville, Historic Cocoa Village, Downtown Cocoa Beach, Eau Gallie Arts District and Historic Downtown Melbourne. These downtown areas have emerged as hip centers of shopping, dining and entertainment. Whether you prefer an eclectic atmosphere, family-friendly area or one that showcases the local art scene, there’s a downtown area that’s right for you on Florida’s Space Coast.

Downtown Titusville

Full of historic charm, Downtown Titusville is a historian’s dream area to explore. Visit the North Brevard Historical Museum where you can discover historical artifacts from north Brevard, or check out the Historic Pritchard House – a preserved Victorian home filled with period accessories and furniture. You can admire other restored historical sites such as Julia Street’s Emma Parrish Theatre. The American Space Museum and Space Walk of Fame preserves history of the U.S. space program, and Space View Park along the Indian River Lagoon honors those who worked for the space program with awe-inspiring monuments.

Historic Cocoa Village

The whole family, including your furry friends, will love visiting Historic Cocoa Village. Enjoy shopping, dining, and entertainment that includes both recreational activities and the arts. The Riverfront Park is equipped with a splash pad, as well as a playground and amphitheater. Catch a show at the Historic Cocoa Village Playhouse or try your hand at painting at Painting with a Twist. Shopping ranges from unique boutiques like Green Apples and The Mint Mermaid to antique stores galore. Feel the hometown vibe fused with modern fare from Pub Americana and Ryan’s Pizza & Pub, and don’t miss tasty sweet treats from Ossorio Bakery & Café and The Sugar Shack. Not to mention, adults will enjoy the craft beer selection available at The Village Idiot Pub.

Downtown Cocoa Beach

Cocoa Beach is known as the small wave capital of the world, but its downtown is a hotspot for eclectic shopping and unique restaurants you won’t find anywhere else in the world. Rent a bike from Matt’s Bicycle Center on North Atlantic Avenue and cruise down A1A to a variety of shops and dining options. Sundress Boutique on North Orlando Avenue stocks beach-friendly clothing while the Secrets of Cocoa Beach offers unique gifts and art pieces. Dine al fresco on authentic German fare on the deck of the Heidelberg Restaurant. Walk a few streets over and get a bite at Fat Kahuna’s or Coconuts on the Beach. The Green Room Cafe offers vegan and vegetarian options, and Wahoo Coffee serves some of the best coffee in the area.

Eau Gallie Art District

The Eau Gallie Art District, a.k.a. EGAD, is touted as the epicenter of Florida’s Space Coast’s artistic creativity. The district is home to more than a dozen art galleries including the Foosaner Art Museum and eight wall murals painted by internationally known artists. As if you needed another reason to visit, check out Derek Gores Art Gallery, a contemporary art gallery with pieces waiting for a home. Most galleries have limited hours, so be sure to check the times here. Dining is a little more limited in EGAD, but they do have some nice options with Squid Lips Grill and Chef Mario’s Café. Anaya Coffee is a nice spot to refuel midday, and if you’re looking for a night cap, Intracoastal Brewery has you covered.

Historic Downtown Melbourne

Arrive for breakfast and stay all day in Historic Downtown Melbourne. There’s so much to see and do in this downtown district that you will want to savor every moment when visiting. From creating pancakes at your own griddle table at Backwater to sushi at Matt’s Casbah and happy hour at Mainstreet Pub (get the Orange Crush!), you’ll want to finish the night dining at one of the many unique choices available. Throughout the day, fun apparel stores await you like Tallulah 9, Downtown Diva’s and the Flop Shop. Specialty stores like Julie’s British Shoppe and Indian River Soap Co. are a real treat and offer unique gifts. Remember to check the calendar for festive occasions; downtown is known for full-blown street parties and Broadway-like shows at the Henegar Center. Plus, most establishments encourage nightly dancing to DJs or live music.
