Soccer is booming on Florida’s Space Coast. As the home for Orlando City’s B squad on the manicured acres of the Titan Soccer Complex, the area is now a hot destination on the USL circuit. And coming this July, Brevard County will welcome one of England’s most storied and ancient football clubs, Stoke City, for an epic friendly against the main squad for Orlando City Lions.

Tickets are going fast and are reasonably priced, starting at a mere $15, so be sure to purchase soon to guarantee a seat. Kickoff is set at 7:30 p.m., on Wednesday, July 20, from the cozy confines of the above stated Titan Soccer Complex on the Melbourne campus of Eastern Florida State College. The Orlando City Lions will be bringing their full squad to the match with international legends such as Kaka, as well as rising stars such as Brek Shea and Kyle Larin. Stoke City, founded in 1863 (1863! Not a typo!), is a current mainstay of the English Premiere League and a legendary club based in Staffordshire with talented players such as keeper Jack Butland and striker Marko Arnautovic.

This is a very rare chance to see a European football club in Florida, let alone on Florida’s Space Coast. Although Stoke City and Orlando City have formed a partnership, which may see future friendlies, this match will be the inaugural edition for Brevard County. The Titan Soccer Complex is a gorgeous venue, recently redesigned to accommodate the USL league and sure to be hopping on this July night. Get there early to enjoy the tailgate and to spend a little time wandering the glorious assortment of food trucks.

If you’re coming for the game, there are some great accommodations nearby, with the closest being the Hampton Inn Melbourne/Viera, as well as the adjacent Holiday Inn Viera-Melbourne. But if you don’t mind doing a little bit of driving, the Crowne Plaza Oceanfront, across the bridge on the barrier island, offers spectacular views of the Atlantic at sensible prices; the party out on the deck Wednesday night isn’t bad, either.

And while you’re in town for the game, why not check out a few things the Viera and west Brevard area have to offer? Enjoy the open air of The Avenues in Viera, which is great for simple leisurely wandering with its dozens of shops and eateries. The Avenues have quickly become a local favorite.

Nearby, check out On the Edge Rock Climbing. A day pass is only $15 (is this a theme?), and first-time climbers are more than welcome. Also, consider exploring the natural beauty of Florida’s Space Coast with a pre-game airboat ride out west in the swamps at the infamous Lone Cabbage Fish Camp, a round of Smash Golf at green hills of Duran Golf Club or Turtle Creek Golf, or even a relaxing stand-up paddleboard session on the calm warm waters of the Indian River Lagoon. All of the above-mentioned activities are located within a brief 15-minute drive of the Titan Soccer Complex.

Whatever path you choose for this hot summer night on Florida’s Space Coast, you’ll be in for thrills. We’ll see you on the pitch and under the lights for all the action.
