10 things to do before summer comes to an end.

“Summer should get a speeding ticket.” ~Author Unknown~

Whoever coined that phrase obviously understood how quickly summer comes and goes. Those carefree moments that create memories for a lifetime; the backyard barbecues and pool parties; the fun in the sun moments marked by bronzed skin and bleached hair. There’s nothing quite like a good summer, and what better reason to finish the last few weeks of the season than by taking one more trip to the beach.

Before you know it, you blink and you’re going back-to-school shopping, where buying clothes for the cooler temperatures is making it in to your shopping cart. Not to mention those vacation and comp days from all the overtime you’ve worked are about to go to waste. And you don’t want to see that happen! If you feel all vacationed out and can’t think of a reason to make one more trip, here are the top 10 things to do before the summer comes to an end:

1) Take a surf lesson

If you haven’t surfed the waves that pros like Kelly Slater or the Hobgood brothers have cut their teeth on, then it’s time to paddle out and score the perfect wave.

2) Rent a convertible (or a Jeep!)

Cruise up and down A1A, the main beach road on Florida’s Space Coast, with the top down, your hair blowing in the wind, radio blasting Don Henley’s “Boys of Summer,” for the perfect way to end the summer right.

3) Eat ice cream for dinner

What’s a vacation without a bit of splurging and what better way to splurge than with a big scoop or two or even three of ice cream? With 30+ options to choose from, trade a smorgasbord of meat and potatoes with a tour to find your favorite spot that leaves you screaming for more. You. Only. Live. Once.

4) Take in a beach sunrise

Wake up early and capture the day’s first brush of light and color with a sunrise walk on the beach. Top it off with a hearty breakfast to start your morning off right.

6) Get lost in a novel set in Space Coast’s own Cocoa Beach

Reading provides an escape from your current reality and what better way to get away to the beach than with a story set in our very own Cocoa Beach? Weave your way through a story full of suspense, romance, betrayal, and redemption set in the historical prohibition-era by best-selling author Beatriz Williams.

7) Taste fresh seafood

If you haven’t fished the waters of the Space Coast, then you’ll want to add a day on a charter boat so you can score the big catch of the day. Afterwards, head over to Grills-Port Canaveral to have them cook up your fresh catch and see why people rave about the fresh seafood here.

8) Splurge on a excursion

Fly high with a parasailing adventure photo-op and GoPro® worthy. This excursion will have you topping off your summer of fun with a birds-eye view of the Space Coast where you get to see the blue water of the Atlantic Ocean,  pristine beaches, and the iconic Kennedy Space Center.

9) Reach for the stars

If you haven’t experienced a rocket launch on the Space Coast, then you’ll want to make a special trip to the beach this summer just to experience this. Check out the launch schedule so you can plan your trip accordingly. Or download the Launch Console App and have up-to-date info right in the palm of your own hands. And don’t worry, if you can’t make it to see a launch, you can still go star gazing or meet an astronaut, see a space shuttle up close by spending the day (and night) at Kennedy Space Center.

10) Tap into your inner wild animal

Explore your wild side with a zip line tour through the Brevard Zoo. TreeTop Trek is as adventure for anyone ages 4 and older, with courses that suit all levels of expertise. Be Tarzan for the day and enjoy the beautiful landscape and the sounds of wildlife as you tap into your inner animal.

These are just some of our top picks of things to do if you haven’t experienced them. Don’t let summer end without one last trip to the beach.
