From Mars to Down Under, Explore What's New on Florida’s Space Coast

Florida's Space Coast has world-famous beaches, fishing, surfing, and sunny skies. Even the most contented beachgoers grow restless, though. Florida’s Space Coast has plenty of new things to do and see, starting with a tribute to the missions that gave it its name at Kennedy Space Center.

The Summer of Mars

Kennedy Space Center is calling all explorers to its Summer of Mars exhibit. From presentations on the Red Planet by Astronaut Tom Jones to the Mars Rover Concept Vehicle and kid-friendly activities, you are sure to see something for everyone! Go back in time and explore the history of the space race, then jump into the future-  all within the Summer of Mars Exhibit Mission Zones. This exhibit is organized chronologically, from the first mission up to ongoing ones. If your family includes an incoming fifth-grader, there's a bonus: Be sure to ask for a free Boarding Pass, available by showing a fourth-grade report card! Come and see what Mars is all about.

Brix: Something New is Abrew

After your mission to Mars, chill out at the Playalinda Brewing Company - Brix Project. Choose from indoors or patio seating in this beautifully renovated lumberyard in Titusville. Some 20 craft beers are always on tap, along with ciders and craft cocktails. A full menu is available, and Sunday brunch is another option. Look for special events too, like classic pub-style trivia nights. This gastropub is kid friendly, and you can even bring the family pup- if you plan to enjoy patio seating.

Make a Great Escape

For another kind of adventure, head to 321 Escape, an attraction that puts you into a room to use teamwork in order make your escape. You can keep track of your stats and beat the clock to compete with other teams. Continue the space theme with “Escape In Space,” or solve “Hijacked at Sea.” All of the rooms involve scavenger hunts for children and adults (10 and over); however, a couple of these Escape Rooms may be too intense for the younger ones. Please call ahead and ask for recommendations based on ages or go ahead and book online.

321 Escape is located at the all-new Adventure HQ. This place is filled with action packed activities ranging from bouldering walls, crazy climb arena, ninja warrior course, cafe and lounge, and fitness classes all under one roof.

Lands of Change Down Under

You've blasted forward in time to Mars, and backward in time to solve noir mysteries. Certainly the next step is to enjoy the present and venture Down Under, at Brevard Zoo's revamped Australasia exhibit! The Lands of Change Down Under exhibit goes beyond the typical expectation of kangaroos. In this exhibit, friendly kangaroos roam free and world's biggest lizards (Komodo Dragons) hang out next to a python. Not to mention Visayan warty pigs, cassowaries, a dingo, a swamp wallaby and emus. You can also see the Land Down Under from above, at Brevard Zoo’s separate attraction, Treetop Trek Aerial Adventures. For the younger or more timid, you can choose your own adventure with a beginner zipline, or a chutes-and-ladders setup. If you do venture to Australia, don't forget to stop by the Wild Florida, Caribbean and African wildlife areas as well.
