Beyond the beach is a whole world waiting to be explored
Most of you have picked the Space Coast as your vacation spot for the very fact that there is a 72-mile stretch of beautiful beaches that you can lay out on and bask in the tropical climate and get that sun-kissed glow. And Melbourne & the Beaches promises you all that and more, but did you know that there are more ways to vacation that isn’t limited to the beach? There sure are, but if you’re not sure where to even begin, let’s answer some common questions that visitors, like yourself, have when they visit Melbourne & the Beaches.
What can I do on a rainy day?
It’s no secret that it does rain here from time to time, but don’t let a little rain spoil your fun. Depending on what your interests are will determine where and what you will do, but there is something for everyone. One of the newer attractions that you can experience if you don’t mind possibly getting a bit dirty is Tank America. Located in West Melbourne, Tank America is the place to go if you want to play in the rain and have a unique “call of duty” military style experience where you can get tanked and crush everything in your path while sitting in a FV433 Abbot military tank.
And if playing outside in the rain doesn’t sound appealing, you can take your adventure indoors to the 20,000 square foot building for a high-intensity tactical laser tag experience where realistic combat conditions await to give you a thrill of a lifetime.
If you need something a bit more kid-friendly, then check out Andretti Thrill Park. The park’s indoor thrills range from laser tag to mini bowling to arcades and a new indoor ropes course.
Still looking for other rainy day options? Other indoor activities include:

What can I do if I need a break from the heat?
Don’t be surprised if the temperature rises while you are visiting, but there are easy ways to cool off. Explore a little piece of history as you stroll down the shaded walkways in the Downtown Melbourne shopping district. Pop in and out of shops and restaurants where air conditioning quickly greets you, cooling you off while you satisfy those hunger pangs or shop ‘til you drop.
My kids love the beach, but I want to see more of a different side of Melbourne & the Beaches.
Ensuring that everyone has a good time sometimes you end up neglecting to do something that you enjoy. Melbourne & the Beaches have some options that not only keep the kids happy, but it will give you the chance to get out and explore yourself. One option is to check out Barrier Island Sanctuary, a 34-acre sanctuary perfect for nature enthusiasts to explore the diverse natural habitats through interactive exhibits and the walking trails, located down in the southern stretch of the Space Coast. Another option is to go on a water adventure by paddleboarding your way around the Indian River Lagoon or explore your wild side with airboat ride in West Melbourne.
I’m looking for an authentic experience I can’t get anywhere else. Where should I go?
For a once-in-a-lifetime experience that you won’t find anywhere else, head over the Brevard Zoo and hop on one of the kayak tours. The Brevard Zoo is the only zoo in the country that offers an adventure like this. Choose a guided kayak tour through Expedition Africa or go off on your own tour in Wild Florida. This will definitely give you the authentic experience you are looking for.
I’m visiting on business. What can I do after my meetings?
After a long day full of meetings and sitting inside, you’re probably looking for a way to relax that doesn’t keep you locked inside a 4-walled room. Bring a change of clothes and then head on out the town and let the southern coastal charm and creativity that Melbourne provides help you leave the business in the boardroom so you can kick back and relax. Check out the Eau Gallie Arts District (EGAD)where artistry comes in all forms. From listening to live music and enjoying craft beers at Intracoastal Brewing Company to creative food displays at some of the many restaurants located all throughout the town, you will easily forget the long work day. Looking for a place that brings live music, good food, and a waterfront setting? Head over to Grills Riverside where you can enjoy the fresh catch of the day. Visiting the Space Coast on business has never been more appealing!
