For those who have food allergies, dining on vacation can present a challenge. Thankfully, it has become a bit more common to find restaurants that feature enticing eats that cater to food allergies. Here on Florida’s Space Coast, we have many restaurants that serve gluten-free options and provide a wide-variety of items to choose from. Forget the boring salads and pull up a seat to some of the best gluten-free dining the Space Coast has to offer.

Pub Americana – Cocoa

Located in the heart of Cocoa Village, Pub Americana is a casual pub with a local-focused menu that features farm-to-table or all local organic-centered ingredients. What’s great about Pub Americana’s menu is that it includes gluten-free eats and it’s not limited to the typical salad-only option. Enjoy a burger your way and add a gluten-free bun, or enjoy the “Hangover Cure” burger that comes with Monterey jack, bacon, fried egg, avocado-relish, and tomato. Not to mention, their pizzettes (individual pizzas) can be made gluten-free, and gluten-free pasta can be substituted in their pasta dishes. 401 Delannoy Ave., Cocoa | PubAmericana.com

Sugar Shack – Cocoa

Doughnuts. It’s one of those items you miss terribly if you are indeed gluten-free. Sugar Shack offers gluten-friendly doughnuts (can’t call them 100 percent gluten-free due to possible cross contamination) on most Saturday mornings. They sell out quickly, so you’ll want to arrive early to snag these one-of-a-kind treats. 307 Delannoy Ave., Cocoa | SugarShackDonuts.com

Café Surfinista – Cocoa Beach

Offering a fairly simplistic menu for the gluten-free eater, the menu is far from lacking flavor. Their 15+ fruit and veggie smoothies are some of the best in town. Surfinista also offers gluten-free granola in their acai bowls. Come for a refreshing, real fruit smoothie. Stay for the relaxed, surfer-centric ambiance - you’ll feel at home. 86 N. Florida’s Fresh Grill – Cocoa Beach

If you’re looking for a place that captures the upscale vibe of Cocoa Beach, look no further than Florida’s Fresh Grill. Their menu specializes in fresh seafood, steaks, award winning soups, and much more. What we especially love about their menu is the gluten-free items are clearly marked and the options seem endless. Chilean sea bass, rib eye, and lobster tail are just a few examples of gluten-free options; their fresh, gluten-free sides include vegetables, rice, and mashed potatoes. And the dessert options? Delicious! It was hard to choose between the chocolate torte, seasonal sorbet and the crème brulee. 2039 N. Atlantic Ave., Cocoa Beach | FloridasFreshGrill.com

Burger 21 – Viera

Burger 21 offers a unique variety of craveable burger creations that provide burger lovers a taste experience beyond the better burger. This fast-casual franchise concept offers 21 unique burger creations with a separate menu dedicated to gluten-free options. The Black & Bleu burger features lettuce, tomato, Applewood-smoked bacon, bleu cheese spread and crumbles. Oh, and we love the fact that their fries can be ordered gluten-free too. 7171 Lake Andrew Dr. #102, Viera | Burger21.com

💁🏻Having Celiac Disease + food allergies makes eating out challenging at times, especially when traveling. Which makes me even more thankful for apps like @findmeglutenfree ❤ It's great having an app with direct lists of gluten free friendly restaurants, bakeries, breweries, and grocery stores. Based on reviews I read about #Burger21 on the #FindMeGlutenFree app, I decided to eat there for dinner tonight. I called in advance to ask questions about how they can accommodate my food allergies and avoid cross contamination with gluten. Adrianna answered the phone when I called Burger 21 and she was very knowledgeable about how to go above and beyond to properly accommodate guests with #foodallergies + Celiac Disease. I was so impressed with her responses on their dedicated pans, kitchen space, and knowledge of ingredients - it means a lot when restaurants have staff that are truly understanding of guests with dietary restrictions. It makes such a big difference when people are willing to make sure your meal is safe without making you feel complicated. Burger 21 even has a separate #glutenfree menu that's in cooperation with The Gluten Intolerance Group (GIG). If you're looking for a great gluten free + #CeliacSafe burger place and you live in Florida or are going to be visiting soon, make sure to check out @myBurger21 🍔 . . . . . . La Crepe de France – Melbourne

There’s only one word that describes this French culinary experience – YUM! Stop in for savory crêpes, a very thin, grilled pancake, for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, and top off your meal with a dessert crêpe. As a main dish, it can be filled with a variety of meats, vegetables, cheese and sauces. We recommend the “Parisian,” a savory crêpe made up of smoked turkey, sliced apples, glazed walnuts, brie and honey. Crêpes at La Crepe de France are made from white flour or organic buckwheat, which is nuttier in texture but is 100 percent gluten-free. 707 E. New Haven Ave., Melbourne | LaCrepeMelbourne.com

The Bald Strawberry Cafe and Bakery – Melbourne

This restaurant is truly 100 percent gluten-free. Not to mention, they have dairy-free, egg-free and nut-free options available too. The most popular item on the menu includes the waffle pizzas, but they also have sandwiches, salads and desserts. Our favorite menu item is the V-Club with avocado, onion, spinach, and hummus. Add turkey to make it heartier. The restaurant has limited hours, 11 a.m.- 4 p.m., Tuesday – Sunday. 1280 Sarno Road, Melbourne | Facebook.com/TheBaldStrawberry
