This fall Carnival Cruise Lines will be add a new port of call to their ships' itineraries. Built largely from the ground up by Carnival, Amber Cove is situated along the Dominican Republic's North Coast, not far from Puerto Plata. Three years in the making, the new port of call will feature cruise piers clustered around a cobblestone piazza featuring bars, theme restaurants and a market dedicated to locally sourced crafts and souvenirs. Carnival's guests can also pick from an extensive array of shore excursion options, from 4x4 cross-country tours to beachside horseback riding, coffee plantation tours, snorkeling, scuba diving and culinary tours focused on authentic Dominican cuisine. Amber Cove is destined to become a cornerstone in creating new itineraries from several U.S. home ports, said Terry Thornton, Carnivals senior vice president of itinerary planning. It will provide an unmatched combination of fun-in-the-sun activities and ecotourism opportunities along with unique sightseeing, dining and cultural experiences to create a lifetime of wonderful vacation memories for our guests. The first ship to call on Amber Cove will be Carnival Victory followed by other select sailings from such ships as the Carnival Sunshine and Carnival Valor which sail from Port Canaveral.
