Seven is the perfect number for anything
Most people have a list of things they’d like to experience in their life. Some people call it a wish list while others call it a bucket list. And it’s likely this list is a never-ending work in progress, that’s constantly being altered, updated and contemplated. Maybe you don’t have a bucket list or a wish list of things you’d like to experience, but there’s no better time than now to create one!
Did you know that Florida’s Space Coast is home to multiple activities that belong on your bucket list? This area is home to Kennedy Space Center, 72 miles of beaches, and nature-related experiences like no other place in the world. So, as you start to plan your vacation, why don’t you mark something off your bucket list and add one of these adventures to it?
Here’s a look at seven ways you can expand your bucket list on Florida’s Space Coast:
1. Helicopter Tour
Throughout the area, there are multiple helicopter tour operators ready to give you a bird’s eye view of Florida’s Space Coast. Beachside Helicopters is located in Merritt Island and offers tours as low as $29 per person, or you could opt for the NASA tour flight at $159 per person, which gives you an aerial view of the NASA complex. Cocoa Beach Helicopters is based out of Port Canaveral and has tours as low at $19.99 per person. These are just a few of the operators here on the Space Coast that are sure to give you a thrill of a lifetime!
2. Astronaut Training Experience
You don’t have to be a kid to train like an astronaut! The Astronaut Training Experience at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex is literally out-of-this-world. Here you can perform a spacewalk, or participate in a launch of NASA’s Space Launch System rocket. Mars Base 1 transports you to Mars to live and work on the red planet for a day. It’s a full day experience unlike any other on the planet, and if it isn’t on your bucket list, add it now!
3. Set Sail on a Sailing Charter
At the Helm is a sailing charter out of Melbourne that allows you to discover the beauty of Florida’s Space Coast along the Indian River Lagoon. This sailing adventure takes places on a 32-foot sailing yacht and is the quintessential way to relax with friends. Day and moonlit sailings are available.
This is a little-known phenomenon that you can experience right here. In fact, there are not many places in the United States that offers you an opportunity to bioluminescence! What makes this fun for all ages is that anything that comes in contact with the water produces a magical illumination in the water. Most commonly occurring in the summer months, you can see the area’s rivers come alive after dark, usually at 9 p.m. Tours are available here.
5. Rocket Launch
The space program has been around for 60 years now, and here on the Space Coast, we’ve seen our fair share of space shuttle launches and rockets. And after the space shuttle retired in 2011, many thought the space program was shut down, but in fact, there are more rockets being launched now than ever. So, even if you saw a rocket launch years ago or you’ve never seen one, now is the time to witness the new space race. Check out the launch schedule at SpaceCoastLaunches.com.
6. Fishing Charter
Cruise out of Port Canaveral on a fishing charter for a fishing adventure you’ll never forget. Most charters offer half-day and full-day boating trips that will have you fishing for tuna, tripletail, cobia and other fish in the Atlantic Ocean. Whether you’re an expert fisherman or a beginner, the crew can work with you to give you the best experience possible. To find a fishing charter in Port Canaveral, click here.
7. Sea Turtle Walk
The first of May officially marks the beginning of sea turtle nesting season in the state of Florida. The beaches along Melbourne’s coast are a prime spot for observing sea turtles during nesting season and make up the second largest nesting area in the United States for both loggerhead and green sea turtles. Sea turtle nesting season ends on October 31, and one of the best ways to spot a nest is by taking a sea turtle walk with the Sea Turtle Preservation Society.
As you can see, there are many reasons why a trip to the Space Coast is in order! Add one or all of these experiences to your bucket list and get ready to create memories that will last a lifetime.
