The Space Coast Marathon is one of the biggest races and fitness events in the area; a family-friendly event that also happens to be the only space-themed marathon and half-marathon on the planet. The race weekend, November 27th - 29th, includes a health and fitness expo where exhibitors feature the newest running gear and latest developments in sports and nutrition. The expo is just a short drive from many partner hotels around Cocoa Beach and is open to the public.
If you’re planning to run this year’s marathon, make sure you’re well prepared for this fun event with these tips:
- #1: Get a Good Night’s Rest: Plan on staying at a hotel in Cocoa Beach or Melbourne so that you can wake up refreshed for the big race. You need plenty of energy to be up and on the track well before sunrise on race day. If you’re attending the Pre-Race Pasta Dinner the night before race day, plan on arriving at your hotel in the morning or afternoon so you have some time to settle in.
- #2: Attend the Marathon Mingle: Event organizers host a free pre-race party for friends and families to meet up on the Friday before the race. This is a great way to socialize with fellow racing enthusiasts and enjoy some light appetizers and live music
- #3: Park Near Race Headquarters: If you’re not within walking distance of the event grounds, you will need to secure a parking spot near Cocoa Village. Running Zone in Melbourne, located south of the King Center and Eastern Florida State College, is the official race headquarters where participants can pick up their official race packets. This packet includes the bib and participant guide. Alternatively, you can jump on the shuttle bus from the host hotel to join other runners on the journey to the marathon grounds.
- #4: Relax and Unwind After Race Day: Spend at least a few hours or an entire day exploring some of the local attractions and sites around Cocoa Beach and Melbourne after the big race! Release muscle tension and fatigue with a sports massage at an area spa, or treat yourself to a delicious meal at an area restaurant. Or, just soak up some sun and relax on the sands of Cocoa Beach to round out your visit.
