DESCRIPTION

Its New York in the 1850s and plain young, Catherine Sloper, has fallen in love with a fortune hunter. Catherine's father sees through her wooer's intentions and forbids the marriage. Proposing an elopement to her lover, she's rebuffed because the young man knows  her will go elsewhere if they marry.

Heartbroken, Catherine retreats into her own world. But the fortune hunter turns up again, but this time she's prepared!
